BPM
BPELJ: BPEL for Java technology
A whitepaper from IBM and BEA which proposes a combination of BPEL with the Java language. The idea is that tasks which are better implemented using a language such as Java can be embedded into the BPEL description as Java code fragements
Maybe not such a good idea as it means that business process need to now be specified by programmers.

BPM
"In search of business architects" highlights the problems faced by vendors in selling BPM to IT departments. The big advantages can only come when the business architects look at changing the processes and that the IT department currently only playes a small role in this.
The article also hints at a solution architect role in an organisation.

"Going halfway to SOA" shows how KarstadtQuelle have implemented an integration architecture using SeeBeyonds ICAN suite which has some of the advantages of an SOA without going to full way. Key seems to be the adoption of ann architectural principle which only allows applications to talk to each other over a message based system.
